Prenatal Pilates: What to Know First

Pregnancy changes a lot, including how you want to move. Many people are curious about Pilates during this time, and it is a good question to ask. The most important step comes first, before any class: a conversation with your healthcare provider.
Here is what to know before you start, and how Beau Monde Pilates can help.
Is Pilates safe during pregnancy?
Every pregnancy is different, so there is no single answer that applies to everyone. That is why we always ask you to consult your healthcare provider before taking a Pilates class while pregnant.
Your provider knows your health and your pregnancy. They can tell you whether exercise is right for you now and whether there is anything to avoid. Please have that conversation before you book, and keep them updated as your pregnancy goes on.
This post is general information, not medical advice.
Does Beau Monde Pilates offer prenatal classes?
Yes. Beau Monde Pilates offers prenatal Pilates classes at our South of Fifth studio, 500 South Pointe Dr, Suite 120, Miami Beach.
To find out which classes are the right fit for you, email us at info@beaumondepilates.com. Let us know how far along you are and what your healthcare provider has said, and we will point you in the right direction. You can also call us at (305) 619-3088.
South of Fifth is our reformer studio. Reach out before booking so we can help you choose the right class.
What should you tell your instructor?
Once your provider has given you the go-ahead, let your instructor know you are pregnant when you arrive for class. Share anything your provider has asked you to keep in mind.
Our instructors are trained in both classical and contemporary Pilates, and they give guidance and modifications throughout class. As Kinsey B. wrote in a Google review: "Her cues were clear and intentional, and she offered thoughtful modifications throughout the entire class."
A few general tips many people find helpful:
- Listen to your body. If something does not feel right, stop and let your instructor know.
- Take breaks when you need them. There is no need to push through.
- Bring water and stay hydrated.
What should you bring?
The basics are the same as any class:
- Comfortable athletic clothing
- Grip socks (sold at the studio if you forget yours)
- Water
Equipment, including mats, is provided.
How does booking work?
Once you have checked with your healthcare provider and with us, booking is simple. Just remember that buying a pack does not book a class. After you purchase, pick your time on the schedule or in the Beau Monde Pilates app, available on the App Store and Google Play.
You can see our prices for South of Fifth, the Fontainebleau, and the Loews. If your plans change, cancel at least 24 hours before class to avoid charges. Late cancellations may be subject to a $25 fee. For more answers, visit our FAQs.
